Our Old School

Our old school have holes all over the wear down rug. There were holes on the walls from people sparring. There were blood stains all over the punching bag. There was no air conditioning in the summer and no heat in the winter except a space heater. We did basics for hours everyday. We did forms over and over and over again. We sparred for three to four hours without stopping. Most people start quitting between 2 to 4 weeks of training. Those who didn’t got their humiliation tested by failing their belt tests. Our instructor knew if you come back and train harder after you fail you most likely will earn your black belt.  It usually takes about five years to reach 1st degree black belt level. Black belt instructors beat the fear out of you in the 8 hours straight black belt test.  A black belt was real black belt in those days.

To my new black belts:

Reaching 1st Degree Black belt is not the end of the journey, in fact, it is the beginning of a whole new learning level.  That journey cannot be told, but experienced.  If the student is willing to open his or her mind, then he or she will be able to enjoy a whole new enlightenment.

Dedication, Hard Work, Discipline, Unity, Trust, Humility, Perseverance, Pride, and Indomitable Spirit
