Reaching 1st Degree Black belt is not the end of the journey, in fact, it is the beginning of a whole new learning level.  That journey cannot be told, but experienced.  If the student is willing to open his or her mind, then he or she will be able to enjoy a whole new enlightenment.

Dedication, Hard Work, Discipline, Unity, Trust, Humility, Perseverance, Pride, and Indomitable Spirit

Humility is where many karate students today failed. Karate students maybe tested on their degree of humility by their instructor. Many do not see beyond themselves and can not swallow up their arrogance and pride. To wear a white belt after having been a black belt, is a test of humility in many martial arts systems. Humility keeps pride in check. Meaning, existence of the Ying and Yang is balanced by having equality of both these attributes of nature, or rather of human character.

Students must never lose the feeling of appreciation for their instructor, as well as the appreciation for their family, for their love and support of their efforts. Some karate students, when they feel they have achieved a high level of technical ability and/or success, will develop an attitude that their success is due to their efforts alone and develop an ego out of control. They may say the words of  "Thank You" to their instructor or to others, but in their hearts they feel that their achievements are theirs and theirs alone. This should not be the case, however, and no karate students should ever forget or lose the feeling, no matter how successful they become, that their success is a group effort of all of those around them who have helped them reach the level they have.
